Ease the distress of nuisance calls

Orkney Islands Council has taken delivery of ten more devices which can block unwanted calls, following the success of units provided to elderly and vulnerable residents throughout the county last summer.

Available through OIC’s Trading Standards Service, the “call prevention” boxes filter calls for the householder, limiting them to trusted callers only.

The council’s Trading Standards team will be focusing on supplying them to people who are already finding the number of calls they receive too much to cope with, or who have previously been caught out by a scam call, but are looking for anyone with concerns to come forward so that all the units can be utilised.

The devices will be able to gather information about the numbers calling so that data can be collated nationally, as part of a national project to reduce the impact of nuisance calls.
