There has been a last-minute change of plan for the replacement ferry which had been set to come to Orkney to stand in for the mv Graemsay – which has been held up in Peterhead while undergoing engine repairs.

Speaking earlier this week, Orkney Islands Council said that a vessel had been secured from south to stand in for the ferry.

The Chieftain, was to be on charter from Clyde Marine, and was due to arrive in the county this week, however there has been a last-minute change of plan.

Confirming the move this morning a council spokesman said: “A replacement vessel is currently being sourced to cover the mv Graemsay’s run to allow the Golden Mariana to return to Pierowall.

“This was to be the mv Chieftain, however this vessel is no longer available as soon as had been originally planned. A second vessel has been identified and firm arrangements should be in place early next week.”
