Fire calls from Orkney handled in Dundee
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s Inverness control room is to be shut next month, with calls from Orkney to go through Dundee instead.
The fire service has said that members of the public in need of assistance will notice no difference in how their call is handled and the SFRS will continue to attend at every 999 emergency. The Aberdeen control room was shut on Tuesday of this week with staff also set to move to Dundee.
Andy Coueslant is Deputy Assistant Chief Officer with overall responsibility for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service North Service Delivery Area.
He said: “First and foremost, I would like to pay tribute to all of our staff at both Aberdeen and Dundee Operations Control for their unstinting professionalism and dedication as we move ever closer to a more enhanced and resilient service, protecting our communities across the north.
“I would like to take this opportunity to assure those communities that we have been working exceptionally hard to ensure a seamless transition and that we will continue to stand on the front line, attending every 999 call.”
