Flooding: Latest update from OIC

Orkney Islands Council have responded to concerns regarding flooding in the East Mainland and linked South Isles, in the wake of Storm Caroline.

“We are aware that residents in St Margaret’s Hope and St Mary’s Village are experiencing flooding,” a spokeswoman said.

“The storm surge that has hit Orkney this morning is much higher and earlier than forecasted, although the tide will now begin to drop. Our staff are currently in St Margaret’s Hope deploying flood defences. Sandbags are available from the Council’s Hatson Depot.”
