Former OIC director to stand for election

Orkney Island Council’s executive director of education, Leslie Manson, is to retire later this year.

The former OIC executive director of education, leisure and housing, Leslie Manson, has confirmed that he intends to stand for election in the Kirkwall West and Orphir ward.

One of the ward’s four seats is vacant following the resignation of Jack Moodie earlier this month.

The council confirmed this week that the by-election will take place before Christmas, with a date to be announced shortly.

Mr Manson retired from the local authority in May.
