Fundraising tractor drivers arrive in Orkney

A pair of tractor enthusiasts, who are in the middle of a fundraising road run, have arrived in Orkney.

Philip Gibson and Peter Plehov arrived in the county yesterday and have so far travelled 3000 miles around the coasts of the UK and Ireland in a bid to raise money for Steps Care Centre and Cancer Research UK.

The coastal road run also celebrates one hundred years of Ford, Fordson and New Holland Tractors.

Philip and Peter, who are from Leicestershire, began their trip at the New Holland factory in Essex, where they were loaned two brand new tractors by the company.

They have also been towing a pair of trailers — one to sleep in and one for supplies.

Today, they will be driving round the West Mainland and giving a presentation about their trip at Kirkwall’s King Street Halls at 7.30.

Tomorrow, they will be fundraising outside The Reel, on Broad Street, from midday until 3pm,  and on Sunday they will lead a road run, leaving from the car park on Great Western Road  at 10am, with local tractor enthusiasts, as they travel back to to St Margaret’s Hope to catch the ferry back to the Scottish Mainland.
