‘Get involved’ at Stromness open day
If you are keen to get involved in sport, art, music or community groups, then Saturday, November 9 is a date for your diary.
That is the day that Orkney Islands Council and Heriot-Watt University International Centre for Island Technology (ICIT) are planning a day of activities in Stromness.
The aim of the event is to encourage people to find out about some of the different things that are happening in Stromness and round about, and get the chance to speak to others and even get involved.
The main activities will be happening at the Stromness Academy from 11am-4pm and at the Stromness Golf Club.
The day will end with a first-round Scottish Cup battle between Orkney Volleyball Men’s team and Dundee, starting at 4.30pm, and spectators are welcome.
Inga Burton, business manager at Heriot-Watt University Orkney Campus International Centre for Island Technology, said: “With double the numbers of students this year, it is really important that our students get as much opportunity to get involved in the community as possible.
“By holding something that the wider community can also benefit from is important to us and, hopefully, this gives clubs and other groups the chance to increase their membership numbers as well.
Clubs and organisations interested in being part of the day should contact Hannah Cromarty at hannah.cromarty@orkney.gov.uk, or on 873535.
