Getting down to business in Stromness

Business Gateway Orkney are to run two drop-in sessions in Stromness this summer, with the first taking place today. Business Gateway provides business advice and support, including a range of courses, to businesses in Orkney.

New start and existing businesses are being invited to drop in and speak to a member of the BG team at the Stromness sessions which take place on Friday, June 2, and Friday, July 7, in the Marjory Corrigall Room of the Warehouse Buildings, from 10.00am to 1.00pm.

Claire Kemp is the manager at Business Gateway Orkney. She said: “As a local service, we are keen to meet the needs of businesses from across Orkney.

“We have a significant amount of enquiries from folk in the Stromness area and so we’ve decided to trial a monthly drop-in session in the town’s Warehouse Buildings to make it even easier for folk to access advice and support.”

Kerry Sinclair, from Stromness, recently opened a tearoom on Porteous Close in the town and received advice and support from Business Gateway before doing this.

She said: “The support from Business Gateway was really helpful in setting up my new venture.  I attended a number of their courses and it prepared me well for the challenge of starting up my own business. Things are going really well with the tearoom – it’s a dream come true.”
