Holm defeated as Stromness set up all west Parish Cup final
Stromness will have the opportunity to defend The Orcadian Parish Cup next Saturday evening after beating Holm this afternoon.
Facing Rendall in the final, the reigning champions 3-2 victory on the day (4-3 on aggregate) set up a first all West Mainland final since 1998.
Delicately poised at 1-1 after the first-leg, Scott Rendall opened the scoring midway through the first-half when he blasted the ball past Cameron McConnachie to put Holm 1-0 ahead.
Stromness had struggled to create many clear-cut chances but turned the game on its head with two goals in two second-half minutes. A magnificent Ryan McFerran volley brought the away side level and then a calm Trevor McConnachie penalty put the defending champions in the driving seat after James Henry had upended Ross Slater.
David Tait struck the post as the home side looked to reply immediately, before a Steven Edwards penalty minutes later threw Holm a lifeline with 20 minutes to go.
The home side threw men forward in the closing stages for the goal that would send them through to their eleventh final, however McConnachie got his second with a breakaway goal with virtually the final kick of the match to seal the victory for Stromness.
