Kirkwall Grammar School Under 15’s football side played their third round Scottish Schools’ Cup tie this afternoon, beating Aberdeenshire side, Alford Academy on penalties at the KGS 3G pitch.

A scrappy first half yielded no goals, but it didn’t take long before the deadlock was broken in the second half through KGS captain, Connor Hancock when he struck a low shot beyond Alford’s goalkeeper.

However, it wasn’t long before the away side struck back despite a fantastic double save from KGS goalkeeper, Glen Brough. Brough stretched and tipped a high looping shot onto the bar before making another great save while he was on the ground, but Alford eventually forced the ball into the net at the third time of asking.

With no more goals in the 90 minutes, it came down to penalties and after both teams missed a penalty each, it came down to Alford’s goalkeeper to keep the shootout alive. However, it was Kirkwall’s day as he put his penalty over the bar to send the islanders into the next round.
