The new Caledonian MacBrayne ferry Loch Seaforth is visiting Orkney as part of a crew familiarisation exercise.

The vessel arrived in Kirkwall this morning, Sunday, after steaming from Ullapool and, as part of the exercise, the crew  practiced berthing procedures using the linkspan at Hatston Pier.

After an overnight stay alongside Kirkwall Pier, the Loch Seaforth is due to visit Scrabster tomorrow, Monday, to carry out a similar exercise.

Brian Archibald, Orkney Islands Council’s head of Marine Services, Engineering and Transportation, said: “We’re pleased to welcome CalMac’s new ferry to Kirkwall and that our facilities at Hatston will assist with the crew’s ongoing training and familiarisation with the vessel.”
