McArthur calls for early resolution to ferry industrial action

Orkney MSP Liam McArthur has expressed disappointment over the latest round of industrial action to affect ferries to the North Isles.

The Orkney Ferries vessel Earl Thorfinn was tied up yesterday, Thursday, for up to a week.

Mr McArthur said: “This latest disruption to ferry services to the outer North Isles is extremely disappointing. Whatever the rights and wrongs, it is the communities that relay on these lifeline services who suffer.

“The dispute that has given rise to this situation is long-running and a resolution is long overdue. I would urge both sides, therefore, to get back round the table as soon as possible and reach agreement on how this damaging dispute can be settled.”
