New hospital plans to be submitted this week

NHS Orkney have confirmed that the organisation are to submit a planning application to Orkney Islands Council this week for the new facility which will replace the Balfour Hospital.

The board of NHS Orkney met last week to discuss and consider possible sites for the new hospital, following the decision of Orkney Islands Council to proceed separately with its care home development,  a decision which took place back in March.

A site review report submitted to the board by property specialists identified five sites.

Following a lengthy discussion the board endorsed the decision that ‘Corse West’ was the preferred site subject to necessary planning consents being obtained.
