Orkney RFC has appointed Tom Hughes as its new rugby development officer.

Hughes took up his role earlier in the week and says he is looking forward to furthering some of the work done by his predecessor, Bruce Ruthven.

He comes well qualified for the role having both a BSc (Hons.) in Sports Coaching and Performance, as well as a foundation degree in Rugby Coaching and Performance, both from the University Of Glamorgan.

He also has experience with several professional clubs and helped develop a community-based rugby programme in the United States.

ORFC chairman Neil McCartney said that he was delighted to have Hughes on board, and that the committee would be working closely with and supporting him in his role.

More in tomorrow’s The Orcadian.
