OIC convener in Shetland for EU seminar
The convener of the OIC is in Shetland today, representing Orkney at a seminar organised by the European Committee of Regions.
Councillor Steven Heddle will be joined by local leaders from across Europe to discuss measures to boost growth in the EU’s remote areas.
Among the issues on the agenda of the debate – Overcoming Barriers to Economic Development: A Remote Islands Perspective – will be how to co-ordinate EU, national and local investment and financing improvements to communications and transport links.
The seminar, at the Mareel Auditorium, in Lerwick, is being broadcast online here.
