OIC name Garson West as preferred site for care home

Garson West has been named as the preferred site for a proposed replacement for St Peter’s House care home in Stromness.

The decision was made yesterday, in private, by the OIC policy and resources committee.

This follows a consultation earlier this year, when the public were asked for their views on 16 potential sites in the Stromness area.

Eighty responses were received, with 44 per cent of these favouring Garson West as the most suitable site, followed by Burnside West (23 per cent) and Garson East (nine per cent).

The board of Orkney Health and Care has also endorsed Garson West as the preferred site.

The recommendation will now go to a meeting of the full council.
