Orkney FC’s hopes of forcing the North Caledonian League title race to a playoff ended this afternoon, despite beating Golspie Sutherland.
Only a Thurso win against Invergordon, coupled with three points for Orkney, would prolong the title race. It wasn’t to be however, as an Invergordon 1-0 win secured the title.
Orkney kept up their end of the bargain. A brace from Joe Wilson and further goals courtesy of Chris Simpson and an own goal in beautiful conditions in Kirkwall saw off the challenge of Golspie in a 4-2 win.
Orkney are still in contention for the Jock Mackay Cup, meaning there is still hope of landing silverware yet this season.
