Orkney through to ‘Romance Awards’ final

Orkney has been named one of the top three most romantic destinations in the UK, as part of a series of awards organised by publishers Mills & Boon.

A recent public vote on the Mills & Boon website attracted thousands of nominations, with Orkney, Bath and the Lake District proving the most popular destinations for lovers.

The three finalists will go head to head at an awards ceremony in London on April 29, with the winner selected by a panel of judges from the romantic fiction community.

Kirsty Mainland, chair of the Orkney Tourism Group, said: “This is really exciting news for Orkney, with the finals of these unique awards giving us the opportunity to tell everyone a bit more about our wonderful islands.

“People are drawn to Orkney for all kinds of reasons, whether it’s the thousands of years of history, the abundant wildlife, the incredible landscape, the superb food and drink, the music, or the huge range of artisan crafts, but romance is a common thread in many visits here. Orkney captivates a lot of hearts and we hope we’ll sweep the judges off their feet in London.”
