Pensioners urged to check benefits

Pensioners are being urged to take up the benefits check on offer through the Scottish Government’s Home Energy Scotland Hotline to ensure they are receiving all the right benefits and have access to the lowest energy rates.

When someone calls the Home Energy Hotline, advisors identify all the support the customer may be entitled to and, with the customer’s consent, pass their details on to those who can help. For pensioners, this can include the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP).

The DWP then check whether those referred are likely to be entitled to benefits that they are not claiming and, if they are, DWP staff call them back and help them complete any benefit applications required; they also offer home visits to assist where necessary.
