Police station reopened following evacuation

Kirkwall Police Station, which was forced to close earlier today due to a “suspicious package,” has reopened.

Police say that at around 4.15pm, a package was handed into officers which led to the evacuation of the station.

With guidance and advice from bomb squad officers, the items were opened and its contents were found to be not dangerous nor suspicious.

Enquiries into the incident are continuing.
