Redundancies and store closures at Ortak

Following last week’s shock news that Orcadian jewellery firm Ortak had gone into administration, it has been announced that 28 members of staff have been made redundant and three of the company’s stores south have been closed.

Of the 28 redundancies, administrators BDO have confirmed that nine are at Ortak’s head office in Kirkwall.

The shops affected are at the Buchanan Galleries in Glasgow, Edinburgh’s Ocean Terminal, and Stirling.

A spokesman for BDO said they will continue to trade with a view to selling the company as a going concern.
