Shattered roof panel sees Stromness Academy closed tomorrow
Stromness Academy is closed to pupils tomorrow, Thursday, after a glass roof panel in the main foyer shattered and fell to the ground this afternoon.
The incident occurred after pupils had gone home for the day and no-one was hurt.
According to the OIC, a technical inspection began immediately, with contractors on site late afternoon working to assess and secure the area in question.
However, in order to carry out further assessments, and to put in place an operational and Health and Safety plan, the school is closed to pupils tomorrow. At present, it is anticipated that the closure will be for one day only.
Council officers and staff are working to put measures in place to allow the school to open as normal from Friday onwards.
The OIC will provide an update on the situation tomorrow afternoon.
