Springwatch in Orkney

Award-winning Orcadian cameraman Raymond Besant has filmed seabirds in Orkney for a special edition of Springwatch, which is due to be aired tonight, Thursday, August 23.

Half of the BBC2 hour-long programme — a guide to seabirds — will be devoted to Orkney, with the other half featuring the island of Skomer, in Wales.

The programme’s aim is to show the spectacular aspect of seabird life in Orkney, but also to highlight the sharp decline in seabird numbers in recent years.

The Springwatch special edition will be shown tonight at 9pm on BBC2.
