Stormy weather continues to cause problems

After transport cancellations, power cuts and school closures seen last Friday, strong winds are continuing to cause problems in the county today.

Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) have reported that 35 homes in the Twatt area currently without power. Engineers hope to have power restored by 11am. An area of St Mary’s was also without power in the early hours of this morning, with engineers managing to make the repairs at around 6am.

These most recent faults have been caused by poles catching fire, which is due to power cables being knocked from the poles by high winds.

Orkney’s ferry service providers have also cancelled many of their crossings today. For full updates see the websites of Orkney Ferries, Serco Northlink and Pentland Ferries.
