Orkney got the better of GHK in a home league fixture in 2010. Can they repeat the feat?

Orkney RFC are hoping to build on last weekend’s 29-3 victory over Dalziel as they prepare to host early league leaders, GHK, in what will surely be a tough test for the home side. The Glasgow side have won two out of two so far this season and sit top of the table on ten points, but confidence will be high in the Orkney ranks after a first victory of the season last Saturday. Like Orkney, this is GHK’s first season in the National Leagues after doing a clean sweep of the BT West Division 1 — winning eighteen out of eighteen. They have continued this form into the new season and the home side will have to be at their very best to get the better of GHK.

The two sides met each other last season in the BT Shield semi-finals with the Glasgow side running out 32-7 winners, denying Orkney the opportunity to play at Murrayfield in the final. Both sides also competed in National League 3 in the 2010/11 season, with Orkney getting the better of GHK at home, running out 20-15 winners. However, they got their revenge on the islanders in the return fixture in a dominant performance, winning 107-6.

The match is due to kick off at 12:30pm on Saturday, at Pickaquoy.

A second XV/internal game is due to kick off at 10:30am, with a meeting to discuss rejuvenating a second XV and internal league, scheduled to take place in the clubhouse after the match.
