Orkney Gin Festival The Old Library, Kirkwall

Why not treat the gin-lover in your life, this weekend? The inaugural Orkney Gin Festival kicks off today, Friday, and there’s far more to it than just a tipple or two.

Along with special tasting events, where Orkney gin enthusiasts will get to try out some samples from all over Scotland, there will also be an opportunity to meet the makers behind the popular spirit throughout the weekend.

With all events to be hosted by The Old Library Kirkwall, staff at Kirkwall’s newest venue are excited to be hosting the county’s first festival dedicated to gin. To find out more visit The Old Library Facebook page.

 

Drawing Routes The Pier Arts Centre, Stromness 

If you’re looking for a nice day out in Stromness with that special person, there’s always plenty to see and do. The latest exhibition at the Pier Arts Centre includes work by and up-and-coming group of Orkney artists.

Drawing Routes is a collection of work by members of MOTI, which explores their experimentations in the art and act of drawing. MOTI, which comes from the Norse word for “towards or to meet” brings together 17 of Orkney’s newest and most promising creatives into one colourful collective.

This latest exhibition, their third to-date, includes work from 12 artists — Kari Adams, Louise Barrington, Kerrianne Flett, Emma Fraser, Ingrid Garrioch, Calum Gillies, Nick Gordon, Kristyn Grieve, Mary Grieve, Frances Scott, Norna Sinclair and Stephanie Spence. To find out more, you can visit www.pierartscentre.com
