Wind turbine study launched
A new survey devised by Heriot-Watt MSc student Ebenezer Ashie seeks to understand what the motivations have been for those that already own wind turbines in the county and those that want to consider owning one. He is also keen to find out from people the reasons why they would never consider owning a turbine.
Orkney has between 4 and 5MW of installed renewable generation capacity from domestic and smaller scale wind turbines.
OREF’s development manager Craig MacInnes said: “This study could provide important information about Orkney’s domestic on-shore wind industry by giving us a fuller understanding of the Orkney mindset in relation to wind turbine generators including why people want to go for turbines or not.”
The 10 minute questionnaire will be circulated to a number of households throughout the county in the coming weeks.
“It is really important that we get as many people responding as possible in order that an accurate picture of the situation can be drawn. Ebenezer is an enthusiastic individual and it is his enthusiasm and topic choice that has encouraged OREF to help support his research by raising awareness amongst the Orkney public,” added Craig.
