A concert of piano and voice

Orkney Arts Society will host a concert of piano and voice this afternoon, Saturday, in the Stromness Town Hall.

The concert has been inspired by the achievements of Hannah Bown, from Holm, who managed to sit Grade Eight singing and piano in November — “a remarkable and almost unheard of achievement,” according to Stromness music teacher, Jean Leonard.

Hannah, whose vocal teacher is Kath Hague from Holm, will be accompanied by Peter Stephenson, a music teacher from Kirkwall Grammar School.

Hannah will perform at the concert, as well as Tansy Branscombe from Holm, Russell Gilmour from Toab, and Steven Flett from Stromness.  Hannah, Tansy and Russell are all pupils of Jeannie Blagg from Holm, who has taught so many young pianists over the years to a very high standard.
