Orkney Towage crews and harbour pilots have been kept busy with a ship to ship transfer of crude oil in Scapa Flow.

The STS transfer involved two vessels, the Advantage Arrow and the Nordic Moon.

Following completion of the operation on Friday afternoon, both vessels were due to leave Scapa Flow.

In addition, the Olympic Hercules, a vessel deployed for the laying of the anchor moorings, has commenced operations in preparation for the imminent arrival of the offshore accommodation vessel Regalia.

Michael Morrison, Business Development Manager with Orkney Islands Council Marine Services, said: “Another crude oil tanker will be discharging its cargo at the Flotta jetty on Saturday, culminating in a week of high activity in Scapa Flow.

“All of this marine activity provides ongoing additional revenue generating opportunities for the Harbour Authority and provides further opportunity for the wider economic benefit for Orkney’s local supply chain.”
