A planning application for the £60 million replacement for the Balfour Hospital is to be viewed by Orkney Islands Council’s planning committee, tomorrow morning.

Planning permission in principle was already given, in 2014, for the new healthcare facility, which will be at New Scapa Road, Kirkwall, and the application being viewed tomorrow seeks approval of further details. These include landscaping and allowing works to commence.

Two objections have been received citing loss of privacy, noise and light pollution as well as flooding.

The council’s planning agents have recommended the application for approval.
