Members of the Orkney Rowing Club will set off from Kirkwall this afternoon, Friday, on a fundraising row around the Orkney Mainland.

Weather permitting, 37 members of the club set out from the Corn Slip at 3pm, rowing around 90 to 100 miles in support of Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), RNLI, Age Scotland Orkney and CLAN. The club hopes to raise £5,000 to share between the four charities.

The rowers hope to have completed the voyage within 24 hours, finishing on Saturday afternoon.

Keith Moar, from the club, said that most people taking part will be doing two stints each rowing — with shifts lasting two hours.

He said the rowers are feeling confident, although they are expecting a few blisters by the end of the challenge.
