Kirkwall has been showing its support for the RNLI this week, in the run up to a major fundraiser set to take place this weekend.

Various shops in Kirkwall have RNLI displays in their windows, many featuring RNLI yellow wellie boots, and on Thursday night St Magnus Cathedral will also turn yellow in support of the RNLI.

Kirkwall Lifeboat Station is set to be a hive of activity on Saturday, when the station holds its annual Mayday fundraising event between 11am-3pm.The lifeboat will be open to the public, and there will be the opportunity to meet the crew and ask questions about the RNLI and the station.

It is also planned that the Coastguard and Fire Service will be attending, subject to operational requirements, with Coastguard displays taking place at 12 noon and 2pm.

The RNLI shop at the station has been open all week, 11am-3pm, and will be on Saturday, selling lifeboat souvenirs, raffles and games, hot drinks and homebakes.

Hot food will also be on offer on Saturday from the Snak Pot, with food donated from Craigie’s Butcher on sale. Orkney Inflatables will have penalty shoot out inflatable, weather permitting, and Lianne Halleran will be there doing face painting with an RNLI theme.
