Council issues further weather advice

With strong winds and high tides forecast for tonight, Friday, and tomorrow morning,Saturday, drivers are being reminded to take extra care on exposed coastal roads around high tides.

With particularly high tides expected, there is the potential for spray and overtopping by waves on low-lying roads and other areas close to the sea.

As a precaution, Orkney Islands Council is putting a temporary flood barrier in place in St Margaret’s Hope.

Supplies of sandbags are available to householders at St Mary’s, St Margaret’s Hope, Garson in Stromness and Whitehall in Stronsay.

For a link the Council’s Twitter feed, where updates are posted if the Churchill Barriers are affected by the prevailing weather and tidal conditions, look for Adverse Weather Alerts on the home page at www.orkney.gov.uk
