Council seeking public views on Open Space Supplementary Guidance

Orkney Islands Council is seeking public views on its draft Planning for Open Space Supplementary Guidance.

The consultation is now open and will run until February 6.

According to the OIC, the guidance will help to establish high-quality open space, by setting out design and planning principles as well as preferred maintenance options.

The document will sit alongside section D6 of the Orkney Local Development Plan, which says that in general, developments which will have a detrimental impact on the availability of open space will not be permitted, unless no other site is available or provision is made for an alternative open space site.

Following the consultation, the document will be revised and reported to Councillors for approval. Once approved, the document will be a material consideration for planning applications.

The document is available here.
