Councillors refuse museum turbine plan

Orkney Islands Council’s Planning Committee met in Hoy on Tuesday to hear an application to put up a wind turbine at the Longhope Lifeboat Museum.

After a site visit, members of the committee then considered the application in public at the North Walls Centre.

Following discussion, the committee agreed by five votes to three to turn down the application.

Committee chairman, Councillor Rob Crichton said: “Although it was rejected on this occasion, there would be nothing to stop the applicant from seeking planning permission for a wind turbine at a different location in the area. If they want to do this I recommend that they talk to the planners at the council.

“Holding meetings in the isles, close to sites where we’ve held site visits, is always worthwhile and it was good that six members of the public came along to listen to our discussions.”
