Deadline approaching for applications to OIC culture fund

OIC1Organisations wishing to apply to the council for funding for cultural projects have until January 18 to do so.

Orkney Islands Council’s annual culture fund is available to organisations who are involved in projects related to arts, heritage or language in Orkney and designed to support new or existing projects.

Clare Gee, the OIC’s arts, museums and heritage service manager, said: “Cultural activity, including the delivery of festivals, museums, heritage centres and arts projects enables residents to access the highest quality cultural events and activities as well as bringing significant publicity and additional visitors to Orkney.

“The council is committed to supporting the delivery of cultural activity in Orkney. Orkney is abundant in arts, heritage and language, and we want to encourage organisations that have both new and existing project ideas to apply.

“We also encourage groups to get in touch ahead of time before they apply to make sure they meet the eligibility criteria. Our team will work closely with groups to offer advice and talk through project ideas in advance of filling out the application.”

Last year the funding supported a total of 31 projects, a combined investment of over £29,000.

Applications forms and guidance can be obtained from the Council website via www.orkney.gov.uk/Service-Directory/S/culture-fund.htm or you can email Antony Mottershead the Council’s Arts Development Officer at antony.mottershead@orkney.gov.uk
