Director General to visit renewables projects

The Director General of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) will visit renewables and engineering projects across Orkney this week.

During his visit, starting today, Monday, Nick Baveystock will tour two of OIC projects – the 160-metre extension to the pier at Hatston and a new 100-metre pier at Copland’s Dock in Stromness, which is currently under construction.

Mr Baveystock will also visit the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC), where he will view the wave test site at Billia Croo, and get up close to some of the innovative wave and tidal energy devices that are testing in Orkney waters. He will also visit Hammars Hill wind energy project.

During his time in Orkney, Mr Baveystock will also take the opportunity to see another major construction project – the new Kirkwall Grammar School.
