Disappointment over fuel investigation
Northern Isles MP Alistair Carmichael and Shetland MSP Tavish Scott have expressed disappointment at the decision taken by the Office of Fair Trading to end their investigation into the isles’ fuel market.
Their comments come after the OFT announced on Wednesday that they had found insufficient evidence of market manipulation in Shetland and have resultantly ended their investigation. The Western Isles investigation is currently being consulted upon.
The OFT have also said that despite the investigation coming to an end, they would be happy to reopen it if any new evidence came to light, though this will come as little comfort to islanders who, for the time being, will continue to endure inflated fuel costs, say the MP’s.
