Dounby butchers highly commended at ‘rural oscars’

Orkney’s Dounby Butchers have won runner-up at 2013 Countryside Alliance Awards.

The awards, also known as the Rural Oscars, were presented yesterday, Wednesday, to top rural businesses by the Secretary State for Defra, Owen Paterson MP, at the Houses of Parliament.

The Dounby Butchers were runner-up in the butchers category at the awards, picking a ‘high commendation’ from the judges.

The Awards are now in their ninth year and are the Countryside Alliance’s annual celebration of the rural produce, skills, enterprise and heritage of the country’s small hard-working businesses.
