Five-day road closure on Hoy

Sections of the B9047 Lyness to Moaness road on Hoy will be closed to vehicles during the day, for five days from Monday, September 29, to allow the OIC to carry out repair and strengthening works at four locations.

This means that travelling by vehicle between the north of Hoy and Lyness during this period won’t be possible from 9.30am to 4.30pm.

The areas of road being worked on are:

  • a short section to the south of the bridge at Whaness;
  • two locations in the vicinity of the bridge at Lyrawa; and
  • on the south side of the bridge at Pegal

Director of development and infrastructure, Gavin Barr, said: “It’s important the local community on Hoy is aware of the coming closure, particularly those in the north of Hoy, so they can plan ahead, rearrange commitments such as medical appointments, shopping, and trips to the mainland – or travel early if needed.”

“These are much-needed works which will help make the road surface in these areas much more resilient for the community, and we’re grateful in advance for their cooperation in helping us as quick as possible.

“It’s our intention to complete the works within five days, however more time may be needed.”
