Holm seal back-to-back Parish Cup titles
Holm successfully defended The Orcadian Parish Cup after coming from behind to beat Westray 2-1 this evening.
The East Mainland men had to dig deep and work for their victory but a gritty and determined performance saw them lift the cup and become the first Holm team to successfully defend the cup in 72 years.
Daniel Hourston boosted Westray’s hopes of a first Parish Cup since 1999 when he put the North Isles side ahead midway in the first half.
Just three minutes into the second half, Ryan Mooney got Holm back level with fine trickery before sweeping home from an acute angle.
In the end, the final would be decided by a Scott Rendall wonder goal. Playing in a midfield role, Holm’s captain picked the ball up 25 yards from goal and unleashed a fierce drive which flew over Steven Tulloch and into the net.
Westray threw men forward in the final stages in a desperate bid to revive their Parish Cup dream but Holm held firm, seeing the match out.
In doing so, they became the first Holm team to successfully defend the cup since the 1950 class did so after their 1949 victory.
