In this week’s edition of The Orcadian

This week’s edition of The Orcadian is now available from all the usual shop and online, here.

This week’s front page features a heartfelt plea to the local council from a service user at St Colm’s, asking the OIC to “leave St Colm’s alone.”

The possibility that St Colm’s Day Centre in Kirkwall could be closed by Orkney Health and Care — the partnership between Orkney Islands Council and NHS Orkney — has moved users to tears, fearing for the future of the place that means so much to them.

Two sisters, who both have learning disabilities and who regularly attend the centre, have spoken to The Orcadian about their concern over the future of the service.

However, the council has responded by reiterating that no decision has been made and a consultation on service provision is to be launched.

Also in this week’s paper:

• An Orcadian youngster reflects on competing against some of the world’s top squash players in Malmö, Sweden.

• A rugby legend inspires an MND fundraising drive

• An interview with pop veteran Tony Christie, ahead of his Orkney gig

• coverage of last week’s local Norwegian Constitution Day Celebrations
