Isles United hit six to secure ‘B’ League title in style

Isles United won the ‘B’ League title tonight after beating nearest challengers, Harray 1-6 in a final night shootout. United went into the game as clear favourites to secure the title and promotion to the ‘A’ League as they were two points ahead of their West Mainland rivals on 36 points, while only a Harray win would deny United the league title in their inaugural season.

However, that looked unlikely as United ended the game as a contest by half time with a first half four goal blitz. An unfortunate Mark Flett own goal got United off to a dream start on 2 minutes and they went two ahead after 18 minutes courtesy of a bullet header by Daniel Hourston. Hourston got his second of the game on 25 minutes when he volleyed home following a corner.

With United well and truly dominating, their pace and trickery were a constant feature of an extremely impressive first half as Harray simply couldn’t handle them. On 35 minutes, they grabbed their fourth as Ross McQuillan fired the ball through Gavin Leask’s legs to end the game as a contest.

The second half was a much more even affair as Harray looked to salvage some pride. They grabbed a goal back courtesy of Kyle Robb and despite testing Michael Moodie in the United goal, Hourston grabbed his hat-trick to make it 1-5. With the final kick of the game, Isles United grabbed their sixth when substitute, George Brown fired past Leask to ensure that they will be plying their trade in the ‘A’ League next season.
