The annual junior inter-county competition is under way in Shetland, with  Orkney’s young athletes hoping to return to the county with the Stuart Cup.

The competition, in its 68th year, sees another group of Orkney and Shetland youngsters compete against each other in football, netball, hockey, swimming and athletics for the honour of the cup.

The hockey players kick off the weekend’s action at 11am in Brae on Saturday morning.

Following on from the hockey, the athletics — track and field events — is due to begin at 2pm at the Clickimin Leisure Complex in Lerwick. Hoping to finish Saturday’s events on a winning note, Orkney’s footballers are to take on Shetland, at 7.30pm, at Gilbertson Park.

The swimmers are to commence Sunday’s action with a start time of 11am at the Clickimin Complex. At the same venue, the netballers are pencilled in to take to the court at 2pm.
