Kirkwall hosts community justice event
An event looking into how these partnerships can help improve the community, is due to take place at the Albert Hotel, Kirkwall, tomorrow night, May 19.
This follows the introduction of new legislation, last year, which saw the establishment of Community Justice Partnerships in each local authority area in Scotland.
The new partnerships share a collective responsibility covering a wide-range of interests, including; housing, employability, health and wellbeing and places decision-making into the hands of local people and agencies who are at the centre of their Community.
Redesigning Community Justice is set to host talks from four key speakers. This includes Jon Humphreys, criminal justice manager for Orkney Islands Council, Karen McCluskey, chief executive of Community Justice Scotland, Peter White, chief executive of Positive Prison Positive Future, and Paul Brannigan, an actor who has personal experience of the criminal justice system.
Meanwhile, some of Orkney’s local services are also expected to be in attendance, in order to provide information and advice.
Further information about Criminal Justice in Orkney is available on the Orkney Communities website.
