It is the Orkney public’s last opportunity to submit their 2016 Sports Awards nominations, with the deadline for nominations closing at midnight tonight.

An opportunity to recognise and reward the hard work and commitment of local athletes, coaches, officials, and volunteers who contribute, raise the profile, and make a different to sport in Orkney, the awards provide a unique opportunity to celebrate the county’s sporting achievements of the past year.

The awards night is set to be held on Friday, January 20, at 7pm at the Kirkwall Grammar School.

Building on the success of last year’s awards, the organisers have been inundated with nominations, however there is still time yet to submit your nomination.

There are nine categories:

    • Sportsperson of the Year
    • Young Sportsperson of the Year
    • Team of the Year
    • Young Team of the Year
    • Coach of the Year
    • Young Volunteer of the Year
    • Official of the Year
    • Volunteer of the Year
    • School Sports Volunteer of the Year

Nominations can still be made via email and social media. Please see Thursday’s The Orcadian for further information.
