Kirkwall Lifeboat and the Shetland based Coastguard rescue helicopter were called to an incident involving a group of kayakers off Egilsay earlier this morning.

The lifeboat crew headed to the scene after being launched just after 7am. Three people, including one who had been swimming, were airlifted to Kirkwall by the helicopter. They were landed at Carness where they were met by ambulance, and members of Kirkwall Coastguard Rescue Team.

The three were then transferred to the Balfour Hospital.
