Loganair set to launch new direct flight to Manchester
Loganair is set to launch Orkney’s first ever non-stop link to England, with a new route from Kirkwall to Manchester set to commence next summer.
Part of the company’s summer 2018 schedule, managing director Jonathan Hinkles described the 90-minute transport link to England as a “historic milestone”, with tickets set to go on sale next Tuesday.
Commencing on June 22, the route will be operated by a 31-seat Dornier 328 aircraft twice per week, on Mondays and Fridays, until September 3.
The company also announced that they will be maintaining Orkney’s direct links to Norway next summer, with weekly non-stop services from Kirkwall to Bergen on Saturdays, set to operate from June 23 to August 18.
Flying to the Gateway to the Fjords will also become easier for Orkney passengers, while services to Fair Isle will operate from May to October.
Managing director Jonathan Hinkles said: “It’s always a pleasure to introduce new routes, whether they be year-round or seasonal, and these links are great news for both leisure and business travellers.
“Announcing Orkney’s first direct transport link to England is a historic milestone and something we’re incredibly proud to unveil. We have also extended the operating schedule to Fair Isle as a direct result of successful bookings when it was launched last year and are pleased to support Orkney’s traditional links with Norway by offering our Bergen flights once again.”
“Our first three months as a “flying solo” airline, have been challenging, but they’ve also been exciting, and our summer schedule is a statement of intent for the year ahead. As Scotland’s Airline, Loganair is strengthening its network and adding more seats and more flights than ever before.”
