McArthur questions EE on mobile phone coverage in Orkney
Orkney MSP Liam McArthur is asking constituents in Orkney to get in touch about any loss of coverage with EE mobile phone network.
In recent weeks Mr McArthur has been contacted by a number of constituents who have expressed frustration at the lack of any proper mobile coverage with EE services in Kirkwall.
In response, Orkney’s MSP has raised concerns with senior management at EE to establish the cause of these problems and seek a resolution. The company has asked Mr McArthur for further examples.
Mr McArthur is calling on anyone who can help to email msp@msporkney.com with the following details; user’s number, date, time, postcode, other number and information regarding the fault for the loss of signal.
Commenting, Liam McArthur said: “Improving mobile phone coverage across Orkney has to be a priority. All mobile operators, working with government, the local council and others, have a part to play in delivering the services that our islands need.
“In the meantime, however, it is important that faults in the existing provision are sorted out as quickly as possible. I was surprised to learn, for example, that EE customers in and around Kirkwall appear to have little or no service. This is something I have raised with the company and, to be fair, they have agreed to look into the situation.
“To be able to this, they have asked for more details about the problems. I am keen, therefore, to hear from constituents about any loss of EE coverage so I can forward that information directly to the technical team at EE.
“I have also invited EE to participate in the next Digital Forum event Alistair Carmichael and I will be hosting, hopefully in early March. These meetings, open to all, have been useful over the last few years in updating the public in Orkney about steps being taken to deliver high speed broadband but also better mobile phone coverage. They have also provided an opportunity for the local community to highlight to decision-makers where gaps remain.”
