New talent on show at the Pier

A new exhibition, opening at the Pier Arts Centre in Stromness today, Saturday, will showcase work by Orkney’s recent art graduates.

New Ground — Orkney’s Art Graduates 2011 & 2012 celebrates the work of a group of young artists who attended school in Orkney and have gone on to graduate with degree awards in art and design.

Included in the show is work in a wide variety of media, including drawing and painting, illustration, film, photography, jewellery, fashion and textiles, furniture and sculptural works.

Complementing New Ground are two exhibitions showcasing Orkney’s young creative talent. These comprise a selection of artwork curated by art teachers from schools across Orkney.
The first will include work from primary and junior secondary schools, and will be on display from February 9- February 23, followed by work from Kirkwall Grammar School and Stromness Academy from March 2- March 16.

New Ground – Orkney’s Art Graduates 2011 & 2012 runs until March 16.
